    Poultry, Waterfowl & Other Captive Birds

    PLEASE NOTE THAT SELLERS OF POULTRY, WATERFOWL & OTHER CAPTIVE BIRDS MUST HAVE A DEFRA BIRD REGISTRATION/CPH NUMBER 

    New Guidelines have been put in place by the government with regards to Bird Keepers (including birds keep as pets) and the selling and Buying of Poultry, Waterfowl and other Captive Birds.  


    In order for us to sell the Birds the new guidelines need to be met and are as follows:-

    • Sellers must be registered with the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) on the GB Poultry Register and Clitheroe Auction must be provided with evidence of registration along  with the entries. Any entry without evidence of registration can NOT be accepted. 
    • Buyers must be registered with the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) on the GB Poultry Register and Clitheroe Auction must be provided with evidence of registration.  
    • Sellers must declare that their birds do not originate from premises or areas which are under restrictions related to confirmation of notifiable avian disease. A declaration is on our entry form and must be signed.
    • All birds arriving at our sale must remain isolated from any other birds on site until each bird has been inspected. Any bird that we deem not fit for sale will be refused.
    • All cages, crates, carriers or other containers brought into the Aution Mart must be cleaned thoroughly before use.

    With effect from the 10th February the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) has put in place restrictions to prevent the spread of bird flu in England, Scotland, and Wales. Gatherings of poultry (including ducks, geese, swans, pheasants, partridge, quail, chickens, turkeys and guinea fowl), will be banned until further notice.
